Bert Johnson's Column on the conclusion of SOPA/PIPA:

Last week, after Congress introduced the SOPA and PIPA act, sites such as Google, Wired, and Wikipedia, expressed their opinion, Wikipedia closing their site entirely and Google black labeling their site. They had a link on their page asking for users to sign petitions and call local representatives and senators to filibuster the bill. Online companies oppose the SOPA and PIPA Act, because the act invests power for the MPAA to be able to close down websites, which would lead to censorship. SOPA sponsors claim that a way to prevent online piracy is needed, but going about it with the ability to shut down sites without copyright protection is just the wrong way.
" Speed bumps are illegal, but we don't put speed bumps on the highway" - Internet expert
Actions like the one taken last week to rid SOPA would not have been possible if we were actually under SOPA. What destroyed SOPA, was not the highly paid lobbyists for companies, but the citizens of America that took it upon themselves to fight against the act. How much more of a world do we need to put into the hands of legislative authorities? Are the 99% going to ever get the representation they need? When politicians have to conform to the big companies that fund them and neglect the small companies that need them, that's when you know that there needs to be a reassessment of our government. Bert Johnson believes that sponsors of SOPA will be back in one form or another, but hope that small business are included into the bill.
Analysis:
- In the video posted in the article below, it is explained how the supporters and sponsors behind SOPA/PIPA are the Major Media News outlets. I have yet to find a telecast that definitively explained what SOPA/PIPA is and what it would do. The news do not want to report on SOPA/PIPA, they want to hide it from the people. Not only, because it would destroy the way they would be percieved, but because they do not want the people to be able to do anything about it. The internet is the only way of hearing about news, that is not hidden, not censored, and not biased.
- So far the most recent news explains the victory over PIPA/SOPA from the internet. Also explaining the importance of the defeat over the big corporations and how the people should continue to express their voices even though the only way may be through the internet.
- The whole issue is about the corruption of the people's freedom of speech, and how the people need to defend it and take back what was created in the 1st Ammendment.
